One day, fifteen year old Dan Malloy was standing in a Portland, Oregon juvenile court facing a judge; the next he's serving parole at a small family farm in the Columbia River Gorge. Dan learns to accept the eery quiet of rural life, but he can't get used to taking orders from the farm's patriarch, Mr. Edwards.
