The Upper Willamette Community is endowed with a rich and colorful past, made so by the people who have lived here. There were those first pioneers, then came the trappers, ranchers, road builders, freighters, miners, loggers, lumbermen, construction workers, storekeepers, hunting guides, resort keepers, teachers, engineers, foresters, doctors, preachers, lawmen, outlaws, moonshiners, hotelkeepers, travernkeepers, blacksmiths, railroadment and dam builders, all with their housewives and children.
In 1853 the first great flow of pioneers crossed the Willamette Pass from Eastern Oregon following the middle fork of the Willamette river to the valley below. Over this route in the years that followed passed over 200 wagons, more than 1000 persons and numerous herds of cattle...
