description -
The brethren of the Coast were a cosmopolitan band of buccaneers; bloodthirsty, swashbuckling marauders who roamed the seas from Hispaniola across to the Pacific and the East Indies in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, sacking the rich coastal settlemets of the Americas, pillaging those Spanish treasure whips symbolised by the fabulous Manila galleon which crossed the Pacific every twelve months, her hold heavy with the riches of the East. The authors have not allowed their careful scholarship to dull the essential excitement of this account of the brethren of the Coast. They have used the bucaneers' original manuscripts, several of them hitherto unstudied which many years ago inspired such masterpieces as Robinson Crusoe, The Time of the Ancient Mariner and Treasure Island.
